Man Wanted In Astoria Bash-Robbery

Police in Astoria are seeking help from the public to identify and locate a suspect who assaulted and robbed a 51-year-old local man on August 13.
Police said the victim was walking near the entrance to a building on 23rd Street at about 5 a.m. on August 13 when the suspect crept up behind the man and covered his mouth. The suspect proceeded to punch the victim in the face and knock him to the ground with a blow to the head, then emptied the man’s pockets and fled with his wallet.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released, authorities said.
The suspect, who was captured on surveillance footage running from the scene of the attack, is described as a black male, 25-30 years old, approximately 6’ tall, with short black hair and a muscular build. He was wearing a purple athletic-style team shirt with white lettering on the front at the time of the attack.
