Hunt ‘Hammer’ Suspect In Woodside Hate Crime

Queens detectives are searching for a man who bashed a transgender woman in the head with a hammer in Woodside on August 17, and shouted anti-gay slurs at the victim before fleeing the scene.
Police sources said the 28-year-old victim was walking on 67th Street in Woodside at about 6 a.m. on August 17 when a man walked up from behind and hit the victim in the head with a hammer.
The suspect shouted, “This is what you get for being gay,” at the victim and ran from the scene, the sources said.
The victim was treated and released at Elmhurst Hospital Center, authorities said.
Police are investigating the attack as a hate crime, police sources said.
