Hanging Death Of Astoria Construction Worker Probed

Police are trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding the apparent suicide of a construction worker in Astoria on August 17.
Officers said passersby spotted the man hanging outside the building at 31-57 34th Street with a rope around his neck, at about 12:50 p.m. on August 17.
Police and firefighters pulled the man into the building through a fifth-floor window and tried to revive him at the scene, a fire spokesperson said.
The unidentified man, in his 30s, died en route to Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens, fire officials said.
Coworkers told investigators that they overheard the man arguing on his cell phone shortly before he was spotted hanging from the building, police sources said.
Police are treating the incident as a suicide, pending the outcome of an investigation, NYPD officials said.
