State Senator Jose Peralta distributed 3,000 backpacks and school supplies to students during his annual Back to School Giveaway in Corona. With the upcoming academic year just a month away, State Senator Jose Peralta, local organizations and volunteers distributed backpacks and school supplies to students during the Senator’s seventh annual Back to School Giveaway in Corona. More than 3,000 backpacks filled with school tools were handed out. The backpacks were distributed to the students on a first-come, first-served basis.

There was a limit of one backpack per student present at the event. Backpacks contained classroom necessities, such as notebooks, pens, calculators, rulers and markers. Besides receiving vital learning tools, kids were also able to jump in a bouncing house and take on a rock-climbing wall.

“Education is a top priority, and providing critical learning tools to local students allows them to be confident as they face the challenges of the new academic year,” said Senator Peralta. “As many hard-working families continue to face hardships to make ends meet, and cannot afford to buy the necessary school supplies for their children, we must ensure we provide students with the proper school necessities.”

“I want to thank all the sponsors and collaborators for making this traditional back to school supplies giveaway a reality another year. This annual event helps hundreds and hundreds of local students and their families as they gear up for the school year,” Peralta continued. “During the Back to School event, kids not only get school supplies, they are able to play and spend time with friends and classmates.

“I also want to thank the police officers from the NYPD Community Affairs Unit for their cooperation during the event,” said Senator Peralta.

“Proper school supplies are essential, but unfortunately, many families struggle to pay for all the tools necessary for success. That is why Senator Peralta’s annual backpack and school supply giveaway is so important; it removes some of the financial pressure of back-to-school shopping and allows parents and children to focus on having a productive school year. I am proud to stand with my colleague Senator Peralta, and I wish all of the students luck on their first days back to school,” said state Senator Toby Ann Stavisky.

“I am proud to join Senator Peralta at this Back to School event today. No student should have to start school without the proper supplies. Events like this not only help us ensure that every child in New York City has the supplies that they need to have a successful academic year, but get kids excited to go back to school in the fall. I would like to thank Senator Peralta for hosting this event and for his dedication to our children,” Assemblyman Michael DenDekker (D-East Elmhurst) said.
