Music And Movies On The Waterfront

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition invites one and all to enjoy the Parisian and Golden Age swing spirit for free, as the Avalon Jazz Band performs in Astoria Park on July 21 at 7:30 pm, as part of the 2016 Waterfront Concert Series.

The Avalon Jazz Band has been the ambassador of vocal French Swing, performing in places like Lincoln Center, The Iridium, and around the world. Their musical style is inspired by the type of jazz played in Paris in the ‘30s and ‘40s, especially by the Hot Club de France, the style becoming what we now know as Gypsy Jazz or Jazz Manouche.

The concert will take place on Astoria Park’s Great Lawn, on Shore Boulevard between the Hell Gate Bridge and Astoria Pool, so come out and join the city for a fun time.

The Mary Lamont Band, also front and center on the Great Lawn on July 28, brings country music to Astoria.

The Mary Lamont Band has been the voted Band of the Year three times by the New York Metro Country Music Association, while playing concerts at places like the Jones Beach Boardwalk Bandshell and the Westbury Music Fair. Mary Lamont is the host of the radio show, “Down Home Country” on WUSB 90.1 FM, and has been called the “Queen of Long Island Country” by Newsday and the Christian Science Monitor.

Bring a chair or blanket and join your neighbors on Astoria Park’s Great Lawn on Shore Boulevard, between the Hell Gate Bridge and Astoria Pool, for a wide range of classic country songs, as well as contemporary country and country-rock favorites.

The 2016 Waterfront Series continues on Thursday evenings throughout July and August, featuring the following bands:

8/4 ~ Motor City Revue
8/11 ~ Women of Pop & Rock
8/18 ~ Bon Journey
