Beat the heat of the kitchen this summer and enjoy a Grand Buffet of Chinese, Japanese, and international cuisine at New Grand Buffet. Conveniently located near lots of shopping on 48th Street near Northern Blvd., New Grand Buffet literally has something for everyone, including kids!

The spacious, casual dining room allows for large groups of families and friends to enjoy all their favorite dishes and there’s free parking on the roof. New Grand Buffet offers self-serve casual dining with table service to bring drinks, wine and beer at a reasonable charge, and to clear tables, so please tip the wait staff.

My advice to you is to peruse the extensive buffet first, with more than 100 items to choose among. Next, zero in on your favorite appetizers, then mains and sides, then dessert. I like to start with the fresh sushi and sashimi, and clams on the half shell placed on ice and constantly replenished for flavor and freshness. Next, the cold salad bar is full of fresh greens, vegetables, beans, and pasta salad. If you want to start off hot, help yourself to a steaming bowl of hot and sour soup, wonton soup, or New England clam chowder. I love the dumplings and dim sum presented in bamboo baskets, filled with seasoned pork, shrimp and vegetables with dipping sauce on the side. Crispy spring rolls, egg rolls, baby back ribs, roast pork and chicken wings, either honey-glazed or fried, make for good starters too. Seafood reigns at New Grand Buffet with an eye dazzling array of fresh fish and seafood. A whole baked fish was cut into pieces and kept warm, while the salt and pepper shrimp nearby are great for peeling and eating. Coconut shrimp are cooked in a sweet, creamy coconut sauce that tastes great over seasoned rice. Stuffed shrimp is filled with a savory mix of bread crumbs and crabmeat. The baked salmon was fresh and tasty with its garlicky sauce. Fried, tender rings of calamari and spicy sautéed baby octopus were flavorful and I loved the baby clams cooked in black bean sauce too, spooned over rice. For many regulars, the stars of the show are the Stone Crabs and King Crab legs. Crack open these crustaceans and you’ll find sweet, tender meat inside. Dip it into cocktail sauce, sprinkle with lemon, or just dive in to them. All the platters at New Grand Buffet are replenished continually to ensure freshness.

Meat and chicken dishes are plentiful including the house steak, cut into tender pieces, sauteed with broccoli, carrots, and onions. Juicy Italian sausage is just nearby as well as Teriyaki style beef skewers, roasted pork, mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables. Don’t forget the chicken tacos, pasta, pizza, and chicken tenders, some of the kids’ favorites.

Save some room for dessert where there’s plenty of fresh fruit, tempting cakes, puddings and cookies available. There’s creamy cheesecake, carrot cake, brownies, butterfly flaky cookies, and assorted pastries. I tried a square of flan with caramel sauce that was cool, creamy and delicious. Children and adults alike love the soft serve ice cream machine with cones.

The simple “pay one price” of $15.99 for dinner and $8.99 for lunch Monday to Thursday works so well for families on a budget. Add one dollar to the price for weekend dining, still a great value, considering the delicious variety of food with no complaints from the kids, or grandma. Soft drinks, beer and wine are extra, but very reasonably priced.

New Grand Buffet hosts office luncheons and dinners, birthday parties for kids and adults as well as many other family events. Leave the cooking to them and you can’t beat the variety so there’s truly something for everyone here. New Grand Buffet is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner from 11am to 10pm. They accept credit cards and will deliver for free, with a $15 minimum. Come take a culinary journey at New Grand Buffet.
