All Indications Point To Healthy Growth

Queens has the best medical care in the city. We and our neighbors in the borough know we do not need to cross the river to get world-class medical care. And Gazette readers know Mount Sinai Queens has recently celebrated their 17th anniversary, and recognized their outstanding staff, as well as EMTs and Paramedics from FDNY-EMS. MSQ’s team of nearly 500 physicians represent close to 40 medical and surgical specialties and sub-specialties. They provide a full suite of inpatient and outpatient care and additionally, outpatient surgery, primary care, occupational, speech and physical therapies, cancer care, and radiologic testing. Mount Sinai Queens is also a New York State Department of Health-certified Stroke Center, and the only Joint Commission-designated Primary Stroke Center in Queens.

Mount Sinai Queens has ushered in a new era of 21st century medical care with the unveiling of their majorly upgraded and expanded Stavros Niarchos Foundation Emergency Department (Crescent Street and 30th Road), at five times the size of its predecessor. It is the first step in their $175 million expansion project.

Subsequent phases will open soon, including a new Outpatient Imaging Center; a large, multi-specialty physician practice to be called Mount Sinai Doctors, Queens; new expanded operating rooms; and an Interventional Radiology Suite.

The 20,000-square-foot Emergency Department features a combination of private rooms and patient bays, a separate pediatric emergency area with a family-friendly waiting room, a cardiac and critical care resuscitation room, and bariatric- and dialysis capable rooms. The Mount Sinai Queens Emergency Department treated more than 51,000 patients in 2015.

The entire borough is well served with top-notch medical care, and we salute all the medical and emergency personnel who keep us going strong – our health could not be in better hands. Our hospitals, in addition to our educational, cultural, religious, and other institutions, are the powerful underpinnings of Queens, making it the best borough in the world in which to live long and prosper.
