Dive In, The Borough’s Fine

Summer vacation is a wonderful thing when you are able to take time off from work and take a break from major responsibilities. When you are not able to get away, however, you are lucky enough to live in Queens. In addition to its many exciting activities, Queens has an envy-inducing, infinite variety of food – truly, Manhattan cannot even compare to our authentic Greek, Cuban, Egyptian and other ethnic cuisine from nearly every country in the world, all within a few blocks in every neighborhood. Surrounded by parks and picnic venues, enriching exhibits and dance and yoga lessons, what more do we need from a borough? There’s an expanse of activities and comforts in our beloved borough, a blessing we might overlook because of school and work during the rest of the year.

Do not waste the clear, sunny days of this summer, or miss out on a swim in Astoria Park Pool, or taking a day trip to Rockaway Beach, which boasts a bustling boardwalk of new and cutting edge eateries, surfing lessons, and, oh yeah – the beach! Take advantage of an array of outdoor film screenings, concerts and plays at Astoria Park, Socrates Sculpture Park and a host of other Queens parks. At midday, set up a picnic with friends and family at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Forest Park or any one of your choice, as there are plenty. On a cool night, catch an exhibit in Queens Museum, or the Museum of the Moving Image, or enroll yourself and family in summer camp and family programs at the Queens Zoo, and partake in the seasonal farm stand and summer powwow at Queens County Farm Museum. To name a few, Myrtle Avenue, Austin Street, Steinway Street – there are countless unique venues to explore.

Many of these we already knew about, but there are always new places cropping up. With so many facets to our home borough, we would like to know why you find Queens so special. Drop us a line about your experiences and interests, the Gazette would like to know.
