MSQ Celebrates Anniversary, Honors Employees


Mount Sinai Queens honored EMTs and Paramedics from FDNY-EMS Battalions 45, 46 and 49: Sal Starace, EMT, Station 45; Michael Haggerty, Paramedic, Station 46; and Ralph Maisonneuve, Paramedic, Station 49. The ceremony was hosted by Mount Sinai Queens Executive Mount Sinai Queens honored EMTs and Paramedics from FDNY-EMS Battalions 45, 46 and 49: Sal Starace, EMT, Station 45; Michael Haggerty, Paramedic, Station 46; and Ralph Maisonneuve, Paramedic, Station 49. The ceremony was hosted by Mount Sinai Queens Executive Mount Sinai Queens celebrated its 17th anniversary with an Employee Appreciation ceremony recognizing staff members individually or in teams who were nominated by fellow staff.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Mount Sinai Queens Executive Director Caryn A. Schwab, was attended by hospital leadership, staff, physicians, elected officials including Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas and Councilman Costa Constantinides, and FDNY-EMS officials, Captain Donald Brown, Captain Joe Lomino, and Deputy Chief Cassidy.

“We have established a tradition of acknowledging excellence at Mount Sinai Queens,” said Ms. Schwab. “It is a highlight of my year to recognize and reward staff members from throughout the hospital.”

Manager of the Year: Dierdre Varona, Director of Housekeeping and Linen & Laundry.

Freshman of the Year: Alexandra Bezsonova, Physician Assistant, Department of Surgery.

Employee of the Year: Melanie Droz, RN, Emergency Department.

Team of the Year: 3 East.

Physician of the Year: Rolando Borges, MD.

Service Excellence: Hassan Aghazzai, Social Worker.

The Hospital also recognized EMTs and Paramedics from FDNY-EMS Battalions 45, 46 and 49:

Sal Starace, EMT, Station 45.

Michael Haggerty, Paramedic, Station 46.

Ralph Maisonneuve, Paramedic, Station 49.

“FDNY-EMS works closely with hospitals around the city,” said Commanding Officer Joseph Lomino, Captain EMT-P, Station 49, “We feel honored that Mount Sinai Queens recognizes that relationship and spotlights exceptional performance among our ranks.”

All of the awardees and guests were treated to anniversary cake decorated with the Mount Sinai Queens logo and there was ice cream for all.
