‘The Wizard Of Oz’

To The Editor:
When the MGM film classic, “The Wizard of Oz,” was released in August 1939, it grossed a moderate amount of money in ticket sales. In later movie re-releases, in 1949 and 1955, it grossed larger amounts of money, but in November 1956, it was first televised on CBS, and that was the beginning of a very long series of television airings of this opulent classic film. Today, it has been seen by more people all over the country and the world than any other motion picture, due to its annual airing on television. It truly is an American movie classic, one that will always be a part of American folklore. There will never be another one like it.
