In honor of Flag Day, City Councilman Costa Constantinides and Boy Scouts of America Troop 65 of the Variety Boys & Girls Club gathered with several worn American flags. The flags were donated by residents as part of a Worn American Flag Retirement Drive at Constantinides’ office. The flags were donated to the Boy Scouts for a formal flag retirement ceremony.

Flag Day, June 14th, celebrates the adoption of the flag of the United States by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress on the same date in 1777.

Constantinides said, “Our flag is one of the most well-known and long-lasting symbols of our nation. Its stars and stripes are illustrative of our inclusiveness. We celebrate Flag Day with this retirement drive and honor our national symbol. I thank the Boys Scouts of America Troop 65 for their partnership.”

Tom Sanchez, Troop 65 Scoutmaster, said, “We would like to thank everyone who donated their flags for proper retirement. We will be holding a ceremony in the near future to retire the flags with the scouts of Troop 65. We look forward to continuing to service the community.”
