Gazette Endorses Maloney

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, who has served as a watchdog over the everyday lives of Astorians and Long Island City dwellers for the past quarter of a century, is up for reelection in November, but faces a challenge for the Democratic Party nomination in next Tuesday’s primary election.

The greater part of Maloney’s 12th District includes Manhattan, but Tuesday’s challenge originates somewhat closer to Western Queens. So the Gazette is sounding the alarm today for her Astoria and Long Island City constituents to make sure they get to the polls next Tuesday to vote for her.

The Gazette today strongly endorses Congresswoman Maloney for reelection by the area’s Democratic Party voters because of her outstanding record on women’s rights and healthcare issues throughout her long career.

Do not to forget her key role in winning crucial health benefits for the thousands of volunteers who cleaned up the ruins of the World Trade Center after the 9/11 atrocity, leaving many of them with serious and deadly illnesses. Maloney’s leading role in winning those life-saving benefits for sickened volunteers must be remembered next Tuesday. She has fought for our community, and we have benefited immeasurably from her tenure.
