Forest Hills Gardens Celebrates Flag Day

The ceremony commenced with a welcome message by Forest Hills Gardens Corporation (FHGC) Vice President and Master of Ceremonies, Tony Barsamian. FHGC President Mitchell Cohen was on hand also, and helped coordinate the program’s events.

The flag from the US Capital. Featured were The Garden Players, led by their Musical Co-Director Sunny Knable, performing “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and other patriotic songs. The children were enthusiastically welcomed by the audience. They also performed songs from their recent show, “What If,” which is co-written by Garden Players Artistic Director Betina Hershey.

The flag waves on high. contest winners, Janine Honkanen, Naya Hromic and Tashfia Noor, students from PS 101. After reading their essays, Barsamian awarded them with prizes from the Forest Hills Gardens Corporation.

State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. spoke to the crowd about the beauty of community and the strength of the neighborhood. Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz was also at the ceremony, and spoke to the audience, as did Congresswoman Grace Meng, who referenced recent legislation that positively affects Queens.

Friends of Station Square, led by Wendy Bachman, held their Tennis Stadium Concert Raffle Drawing.
