Photo Jason D. Antos One of the city’s oldest and longest running children’s bike races, the 36th annual Astoria Civic Association Bicycle Race, drew hundreds of children to Astoria Park’s Shore Boulevard to compete. They all participated in separate races along the waterfront on the morning of May 14. The young bicyclists, cheered on by their parents, family and friends, raced for prizes, trophies and awards. In attendance at the race were local civic leaders and elected officials, including Councilman Costa Constantinides, Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas, Paul Halvatzis, former City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr. and Tony Meloni. “This is a wonderful community event that brings everyone together,” said former City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr.
