DOH Eyeing Dutch Kills, Citicorp Tower For Expansion

The city Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOH) is eyeing space in a Dutch Kills commercial building to expand its Water Tower Unit and “Attacking Rat Reservoirs” programs.

DOH is in talks to lease 27,000-square-feet of space at 36-36 33rd Street in Dutch Kills to expand the two units currently headquartered at Two Gotham Center at Queens Plaza, real estate experts said.

A DOH spokesperson said the Rat Reservoir Program “tracks and addresses conditions on public and private properties where rat populations rebound, despite extermination attempts.”

The building is located just south of the 36th Avenue commercial corridor, two blocks from the Q102 bus line and three blocks from the 31st Street elevated subway.

DOH is also in talks to sublease two floors, 50,000-swuare feet of space in the Citicorp Tower at 1 Court Square in “downtown” Long Island City. The agency is negotiating a lease with Citicorp that would run through 2020.

DOH has received significant funding to expand its programs and services, and is need of office space for “hundreds of new staffers” it is planning to hire in the near future, an agency spokesperson said.
