Queens World Film Festival “Best of the Fest 2016” Premieres At Resorts World Casino

Resorts World is excited to host the Encore screening of the 6th Annual Queens World Film Festival (QWFF), Best of the Fest, at Central Park Event Space on April 22 with a complimentary 8 p.m. screening. Following the screening, QWFF Executive Director Katha Cato will conduct a Q&A session.

The 6th Annual Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) was the biggest yet, attracting audiences from as far away as Nepal, Italy, Germany and beyond with films that have gone on to be accepted at Cannes and Telluride.

Featuring 70,000 square feet of event space, Central Park Event Space is the ideal location for exciting, large-scale cultural events like Best of the Fest – which Resorts World will be hosting for the first time ever!

Each year the festival has a very robust submission session, with films coming from all over the globe, 54 nations to date, including Cuba, Spain, Korea, Bangladesh, China, Italy, Ukraine, Iran, Belgium, Finland and the UK to name just a few.

Michelle Stoddart, Director of PR and Community Development stated: “Resorts World Casino New York City is proud to support the arts in Queens and to present diversity in entertainment to over 10 million guests that visit our property annually. The Best of the Fest is a marque event in Queens and we are happy to be the host for 2016.”

Katha Cato, QWFF's Executive Director stated, "We are thrilled to bring these deeply personal, well crafted and well acted indie films to Southeastern Queens specifically to the Resorts World audiences. SE Queens residents don't ordinarily attend the cultural events that Western Queens residents enjoy at the many Museums, theatres and cultural organizations located in LIC, Astoria, Jackson Heights and Forest Hills, so bringing QWFF programming to this incredible facility is an opportunity to introduce a whole new audience to indie films, some from their very own borough. We are particularly proud that three of the Best of the Fest films are from Queens: RSVP, Better Man and Tom in America whose filmmakers will be in attendance."

Encore Screenings extend the life of festival films by creating screening opportunities in alternative venues across the borough and the city. The Encore Screening season runs from April through December, venues include the beaches of Rockaway, closed play streets in Jackson Heights, subway stations, community centers, parks and anywhere else we can erect a screen and folks can spread out a blanket to enjoy indie films under the stars.
