Comedy Is Serious Business In Queens

Every Tuesday at 6 p.m., comedian Tim Unkenholz performs his open-mic show, “Butt Factory”. Upcoming dates include March 15, 22, 29, and April 5, 12.  Also on Tuesdays, Jake Hart hosts “The Dump: A Goddamn Storytelling Show” in which performers have eight minutes to tell any one true story. There is no theme required for storytellers.

Additional open-mic sessions include “Mic and Cheese” occurring every Friday. Comics have five minutes to perform, and must enter on a first come, first serve basis. You will be happy to know there is neither a cover charge nor drink minimum for “Mic and Cheese”! Prices vary for each event, while tickets cannot be purchased online. QED: A Place to Show & Tell, 27-16 23rd Ave, Astoria, NY 11105

Hosted by Lori Baird, “Talk Therapy” occurs every month in which participants - from writers, comics and artists to regular people - share stories discussing the challenges, funny insights, and their general experiences with mental health issues. While half of the show is focused on storytelling, the final half of the night is open-mic.

Also occurring at QED, the stand-up comedy show “You Deserve It”($5) is featured every third Friday at 9:30 pm. “Sh** You Should Know: An Educational Comedy Show” ($5) will occur on March 22 at 7:30 pm. Produced and hosted by Colum Tyrell and Lev Fer, comics are given free range to share various stories they consider interesting. This upcoming show will feature Mark Normand, Shak Standley, Drew Michael, and Kaytlin Bailey.
