Queens College Lacrosse Scores 16-6 Victory

The Queens College lacrosse team moved to 2-0 in the season with a 16-6 victory over Post University last Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Knights are 2-0 for the first time since the 2013 campaign.

Sophomore Mary Pat Gibble (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) led the Knights with seven points on three goals and four assists in the game. Freshman Patriece Ausili (Ridge, N.Y.) registered five goals in the contest, giving her eight on the season. Senior Courtney Canavan (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had three goals and one assist, while freshman Margaret Iavarone (Stony Brook, N.Y.) had two goals.

Junior Alyssa Walker (Bay Shore, N.Y.), senior Carly Chierico (Bayside) and junior Samantha Wolf (Oakdale, N.Y.) had one tally apiece. Chierico dominated the draw, picking up 10 draw controls. Senior Krista Ancona (East Islip) turned away nine shots for QC in net.

Queens scored the game’s first goal before Post evened things up at one with 26:21 left in the opening period. From there, the Knights scored four straight to open a 5-1 advantage. A goal by the Eagles stopped the charge, before QC answered with the final six goals of the period to take an 11-2 lead into intermission.

In the second half, the Knights took a 14-3 lead with 23:20 remaining before Post outscored QC 3- 2 down the stretch. Queens held a 32-16 advantage in shots, and 17-7 margin in draw controls.

The Knights were back in action Saturday afternoon with a 1 pm ECC matchup at St.Thomas Aquinas.
