Hunt Three Brutes In Anti-Gay Beating

By Liz Goff
Investigators at the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force have joined forces with detectives at the 115th Precinct Squad in their search for three men who robbed, beat and brutalized a 31-year-old Queens man on February 17, police said.

Cops said the victim was walking on Roosevelt Avenue near 81st Street in Jackson Heights at about 2 a.m. on February 17 when the three suspects, believed to be in their 30s, accosted him while shouting anti-gay slurs.

Speaking in Spanish, the suspects shouted, “You’re garbage, you’re a piece of trash because you’re gay” at the victim, who was on his way to pick up some food from a nearby restaurant, a police source said.

The victim told police he tried to ignore the men, to get away from them, the source said. The suspects followed the victim, repeatedly punching and kicking him to the ground, the source said. “They kept beating him when he was down, punching him in the head, the back, the face and ribs.”

The suspects grabbed $60 cash, a credit card and a municipal identification card from the unconscious victim and fled the scene on foot, police said.

The victim regained consciousness a short while later and managed to take himself to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was treated for a concussion, cuts and bruises.
