Lawsuit Claims Koeppel Dealerships Inflated Car Prices

By Liz Goff

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is putting the brakes on illegal practices at several car dealerships in western Queens.

Schneiderman announced on January 20 that his office has filed a lawsuit alleging that the Koeppel dealerships illegally inflated car prices at dealerships throughout western Queens.

The lawsuit alleges the dealerships, owned by the Koeppel family, illegally pedaled “after-sale” services such as identity theft and credit repair services to more than 1,400 customers.

Customers who signed on for the added services were illegally overcharged, Schneiderman said.

The lawsuit alleges that between January 2013 and November 2014 the dealerships collected more than a million dollars form customers through the illegal practice.

Schneiderman said the scam cost some customers as much as $2,000 and urged the dealerships to refund the money.

A spokesperson for the Koeppel Auto Group said it is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
