Elected Officials Warn Of Weekend Blizzard

As the city prepares for what could be a major snow storm this coming weekend, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is urging his constituents in southern Queens to be prepared for not only snow, but possible flooding as well.

The National Weather Service is predicting heavy snow, between 4 and 6 inches, for all five boroughs this weekend, along with the potential for coastal flooding. In areas where high tides are already common – especially those that were affected by Sandy, such as Howard Beach, Hamilton Beach, Broad Channel and the Rockaway peninsula – Addabbo is reminding residents to take extra precautions to prevent any damage from additional flooding due to the storm.

“The weather we are expecting this weekend has the potential to bring a major storm surge to several of the neighborhoods in my district, including heavy snow, strong winds and coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service,” Addabbo said. “I want to encourage everyone in a possible flood zone to keep a close watch on this storm and take steps to protect your property and yourselves. It is important to stay up to date on the most recent forecasts in order to be ready not just for heavy snowfall, but for flooding as well. When it comes to storms, preparation is key and you can never be too prepared.”

Addabbo is also reminding his constituents that, as always, any questions or concerns can be directed to either his Howard Beach office, at 718-738-1111, or his Rockaway office at 718-318-0702.
