It’s In Queens! (Dec. 24 to Dec. 30)

The youngsters are home with no school this week. Luckily, there are plenty of workshops and other activities all around the borough to provide entertainment, education, and enrichment. Plus, a rap legend comes to town. Here’s the rundown.

Dec. 24 to Jan. 3, Twelfth Night, times vary. The Swiftly Tilting Theatre Project produces William Shakespeare’s comedy with original music. In this version, the characters inhabit a modern jazz club, drinking, partying, singing, and playing pranks in their quests to find love. $12. Dec. 26, Kwanzaa Toy Giveaway, noon to 5 pm. The Queens Sickle Cell Advocacy Network and the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Youth partner with CultureCocoa ArtHouse to provide gifts during a free family event with food and entertainment. Dec. 26 to Jan. 3, Frozen in 3D, 3 pm. Join Anna on her epic journey with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer, Sven, to find her sister, Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. To show daily, this movie won the 2014 Academy Award for best animated feature film. New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th St., Corona, www.nysci.org.

Dec. 26 and 27, The Wild Bunch, 3:30 pm; and The Last Picture Show, 7 pm. Screened in conjunction with an in-house exhibition, The Wild Bunch is a western about a group of grizzled veterans who band together for one last score. The Last Picture Show tells the tale of two high school friends coming of age in a fading Texas town. $12/$9 for seniors and students/$6 for children 3–12. Dec. 26 to Dec. 28, Holiday Farm Open House, noon to 4 pm. Take tours of the decorated Adriance Farmhouse. Youngsters can enjoy craft activities, and all visitors are invited to warm up with freshly mulled cider. Free. Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy., Floral Park, www.queensfarm.org.

Dec. 27 to Dec. 30, ReMake the Holidays, noon to 4 pm. Each day offers a different hands-on workshop (i.e. ice-sculpting, textiles, collages, sewing, creating wire sculptures, and origami). This program is a response to increased consumption during the holiday season and an attempt to give people inspiration and options to do things differently, while having fun. Free with admission. Dec. 27, Family Workshop: City Blocks, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Families build city blocks using the Panorama of New York City, and their streets where they live, as inspiration. Dec. 29, Victorian Crafts and Cocoa, 11 am to 1 pm. A family holiday activity to get creative and make Victorian-style, New Year’s noise-makers. Dec. 29, Animal Care Club, 10 am to noon. This program gives children hands-on experience in feeding, brushing, cleaning, and learning about the needs of APEC’s animals.
