Hunt Accomplice In LIC Pipe Attack

By Liz Goff
Police last week arrested one of two men wanted in connection with the brutal beating of a foreman at a Long Island City construction project, and are actively searching for a second suspect in the attack.

Cops said the two men, both former workers at the site, accosted the 59-year-old victim at a construction site on 24th Street and 41st Avenue at about 4:20 p.m. on November 25, where they demanded payment for hours they claimed to had previously worked.

When the foreman failed to hand over the cash, the pair bashed him with metal pipes and fled with his $360 Samsung Galaxy cell phone, police said.

The victim was taken to Cornell Hospital Medical Center where he was treated for serious lacerations, bruising and bleeding to his leg, hand, arm and back, authorities said.

One of the suspects was arrested when he returned to the construction site on December 3, police said. Walter Molina, 26, of Staten Island, is facing assault, weapons possession, robbery and other charges in connection with the attack.

Police are urging anyone with information on the second suspect to call the CrimeStoppers HOTLINE at 1-800-577-TIPS or click on www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
