Cops Hunt Astoria ATM Thief

By Liz Goff
Police are searching for a brazen bandit who smashed open an ATM machine in Astoria on October 23 and made off with about $2,100.

Cops said the hooded thief was captured on area surveillance camera footage tying a bandanna around the lower part of his face and holding a mallet and a chisel at about 3:50 a.m. on October 23, as he prepared for the heist at an outdoor ATM on 27th Avenue near 19th Street.

He is seen moments later bashing the ATM and running away with the cash, police sources said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or go to www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
