Meet The Meat

Meet the Meat is Astoria’s newest and most exciting steak house. Besides the world class steaks and chops, excellent service, and handsome interior, what makes Meet the Meat so exciting is that you’ll also find a raw bar, hand-selected fish, seafood, and chicken so there is something for everyone.

Meet the Meat opened on June 25th by two charming partners; Adnan Nuredini, who works the front of the house, and “Lucky” the expert Chef who keeps the sizzle going with a fine, elegant touch that he applies to each and every beautifully presented dish. Indeed Mr. Nuredini hails from Kosovo and worked at a very famous Manhattan steak house for 20 years, and we are lucky enough to have his expertise right here in Astoria.

The classically decorated dining room features tables dressed in crisp, white linens, soft lighting and soothing background music. The service is excellent, delivered by Paolo and the crew on table-side carts which lends a note of elegance and style. The dining room was nearly full and yet your every need is attended to, from start to finish.

My brother and I were treated to a tasting menu, designed and prepared by Chef Lucky and Adnan to allow us to sample smaller portions of all their delectable, most popular menu items. What a great way to taste the breadth of the offerings here, along with a carefully chosen wine pairing brought with each course. We started with the freshest Blue Point oysters available, presented with horseradish and cocktail sauce and a glass of dry white wine (half dozen; $11.95). A trio of impossibly tender grilled calamari, grilled octopus, and grilled shrimp was beautifully presented and served with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Smoked salmon with capers, onions and pumpernickel bread is another delicious seafood option.

The salad course was buttery soft mozzarella di buffala sliced with juicy tomatoes and basil, served with fine olive oil and balsamic vinegar ($9.95). You can also try the classic steak house wedge of iceberg lettuce with creamy bleu cheese dressing, or tomato and onion salad. Next came cups of their two featured soups including the creamy shrimp bisque made with homemade fish stock, and French onion soup, rich with flavor, crouton and melted Gruyere.

The star of the show is the prime quality meats served here. With eight options you’ll discover your favorite and they’ll suggest a great red wine to pair with it. We sampled the prime sirloin, perfectly cooked and juicy, along with a petite filet mignon, with its buttery texture. There’s also a full size filet mignon and medallions of beef with mushrooms and Bordelaise sauce and a side of mashed potatoes ($26.95). We were ‘wow-ed’ by the tenderness and flavor of the lamb chops, so succulent and juicy, served with mashed potatoes and fresh spinach. I’ll be back for those! And of course, the Porter House steak for 2 or 3 persons is served in grand style from the cart, cooked to perfection and sliced for easy service. The Meet the Meat’s Porter House is the real thing for steak lovers.

If you prefer fish, Meet the Meat does an outstanding job with fresh Branzino, grilled with lemon, wine and herb sauce and roasted potatoes ($21.95). The salmon fillet is served with verdant asparagus and roasted potatoes. MTM chicken breast is tender and juicy, served with caramelized shallots and potatoes. While many dishes come with a side dish, you can order extras for the table including hash brown potatoes, creamed spinach, onion rings, sautéed mushrooms, and baked potato.

Finish your meal with a beautiful hunk of homemade tiramisu, dusted with cocoa and decorated with fresh berries. Key lime pie, walnut pecan pie, and flourless chocolate cake are irresistible, along with a glass of port wine and a cup of coffee. Meet the Meat is a popular venue for private parties, business functions, medical/pharmaceutical dinners, and your special occasion so call now to reserve your party. Meet the Meat will be open on Thanksgiving Day and the whole weekend, so when you’ve had enough turkey and family, slip out for some excellent steak and seafood, right here in the neighborhood.

Meet the Meat is open 7 nights a week for dinner, beginning at 5:00pm. They offer free delivery and there is plenty of easy street parking. Meet the friendly staff at Meet the Meat soon and enjoy a new twist on the classic steak house.
