Sharing The Bounty

State Senator Jose Peralta in collaboration with Woodside on the Move donated hundreds of turkeys to faith-based organizations, non-profits, schools, and senior centers. By Thanksgiving Day, Senator Peralta’s office will have distributed more than 500 10- to 12-pound turkeys. The turkeys have been available since November 16, at the Food Bazaar, located at 34-20 Junction Boulevard in Jackson Heights. This is the fifth year Senator Peralta is holding his traditional Turkey Drive.

“Hardworking families are struggling to make ends meet and we will continue to help them get through these difficult economic times,” said Peralta. “I hope our turkey drive helps neighbors and families, so they can also enjoy a great holiday meal.”

Among the organizations participating in the Senator’s turkey drive are Food Bazaar, which contributed 102 turkeys; MetroPlus Health Plan, which donated 100, Delta Airlines with 80 and Fresh Direct with 75. Also, contributing to the efforts were Congressman Joseph Crowley, Assemblyman Michael DenDekker, The Mattone Group, BJ’s Wholesale, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, National Supermarket Association, PLS Financial Services, Bolton St. Johns and Starbucks.
