Following the main part of the press conference on November 4 where both Sandy Alderson and Mets manager Terry Collins addressed the media the two broke into two separate interview groups with members of the writing press and the video press. During his talk with the writers, Alderson dropped to the floor and lay there for almost 30 seconds as he stared straight up at the ceiling not appearing to focus on anything. Someone shouted, “call 911,” as the press backed up and a member of the Mets security team looked over at Alderson.

When he seemed to recover he was assisted to a chair here he began to smile before being escorted from the press room. A senior member of the Mets media department returned within fifteen minutes and announced that he fainted due to not eating breakfast and the heat from the hot lights under which he sat and stood for nearly an hour before his collapse.
