Van Bramer Holds Annual Hispanic Leadership Awards

Photo Office of Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer hosted his Sixth Annual Hispanic Leadership Awards Ceremony at La Choza del Gordo in Long Island City. More than 150 local resident and community leaders gathered on October 27 to honor and recognize this year’s awardees and the contributions they’ve made to the city. The crowd was entertained by international tango champions Yaisuri Salamanca and John Hernan Raigosa of Woodside. Van Bramer also presented City Council Speaker Mark-Viverito with the Distinguished Public Service Award. Also honored for their achievements were PS 112 Principal Rafael Campos-Gatjens, artist and photographer Salvador Espinoza who was awarded a 2014 Queens Council on the Arts artist grant for his We Will Be Here project; United Forties Civic Association Vice President Elizabeth Montenegro; Tower Play-N-Learn Director Elizabeth O’Hara, 7 Train Blues Founder Mark Salinas who created the 7 Train Murals project and NYC Participatory Budget Delegate for the 26th District Jennifer Munoz, a singer, volunteer and community leader who is a junior at the Academy of American Studies in Long Island City. She is also a soprano with the New York City Children’s Choir.
