U.S. Ambassador To Mideast To Speak In Forest Hills

US Mideast Ambassador Dennis Ross will speak in Forest Hills on Sunday, October 25 at 3 p.m.at the 19th Annual Author’s Cafe of the Central Queens Y. Ambassador Ross has for thirty years been one of the leading figures in Mideast peace negotiations, shaping the course of modern history in the region.
Ambassador Ross will speak about his new book, Doomed to Success, which tells the inside story of the close but troubled relationship between the US and Israel. Dennis Ross was lead US negotiator at Camp David and at Oslo, as well as Special Assistant to President Barack Obama. Ambassador Ross’ talk is co-sponsored by the Central Queens Y, the Forest Hills Jewish Center, Queens College Center for Jewish Studies and Center for Ethnic, Racial, and Religious Understanding. Proceeds from the event benefit the Hevesi Jewish Heritage Library in the Y. Ross’ talk will be hosted at the Forest Hills Jewish Center, at 106-06 Queens Blvd., Forest Hills, NY 11375. Advance tickets for the event, which includes kosher desserts and coffee are $18 minimum and $25 at the door. Student tickets are $10 with student ID. Group discounts are available in advance. Dennis Ross was lead US negotiator in many of the most important peace negotiations under both Republican and Democratic presidents. Today Ross is a Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and Distinguished Professor at Georgetown University. In the first Bush administration, Ross served as director of the State Department’s Policy Planning Office, where he played a prominent role in developing US policy toward the former Soviet Union, the unification of Germany and its integration into NATO, arms control negotiations, and the development of the 1991 Gulf War Coalition. Speaking of Ross, President Bill Clinton said “No one worked harder for peace than Dennis. He gave it everything he had and served our nation very well.” Historian Walter Isaacson said Ross “knows Mideast diplomacy better than any other American… [He] does something essential if there is ever to be peace: quite simply, he tells the truth.”
Dennis Ross’ talk is the headline event in the Fall Author Series of the Hevesi Library at the Central Queens Y. The Central Queens Y is a non-profit community center offering recreational, educational, cultural and social events to enhance the quality of life in the Central Queens community.
