Resident Awakened By Astoria Burglar

By Liz Goff
An Astoria woman got the shock of her life on July 22, when she awoke to find a burglar inside her 21st Street apartment, police said.

Police last week released a surveillance photo (see photo) of the suspect inside the apartment at 21st Street and 26th Road at about 5:40 a.m. on July 22. C ops said they believe the man, who was unaware the resident was at home, crept into the apartment through an unlocked window.

The suspect bolted from the apartment until he realized the woman was at home, and was last spotted running westbound on 26th Road, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 30s, 6-feet, 4-inches tall, 180 pounds, with dark, bushy hair. He was wearing a dark-colored shirt with a white logo on the front left side at the time of the break-in, police said.
