Cops Hunt Armed Waterfront Cabbie Thief

By Liz Goff
Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a cabbie at gunpoint in Long Island City on August 30.

Cops said the suspect flagged down a 33-year-old yellow cab driver on 46th Street and Fifth Avenue (on the Long Island City waterfront,) at about noon on August 30, and asked to be driven to 45th Road and 23rd Street, police said.

When the cab arrived at the destination, the suspect placed a gun on the back of the cabbie and demanded his cash, police said.

The cabbie handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the gunman, who bolted from the cab and fled, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, 55-65-years-old, with white hair, a white beard and moustache. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap with white lettering on the brim at the time of the holdup, police said.
