Crowley Honors FDNY On 150 Years Of Service

On September 17, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley presented a Proclamation to the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) to honor and celebrate its 150th Anniversary.

“This is a momentous occasion for our Fire Department – for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect New Yorkers,” Crowley said. “Since its creation 150 years ago, it has continued to grow to meet the needs of New York City. It is the largest fire department in the nation and is recognized as the world’s busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency, responding to more than a million emergencies every year.” FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro accepted the Proclamation, along with members of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, the Uniformed EMS Officers Union and the Uniformed EMTs, Paramedics and Fire Inspectors. “Earlier this month, we remembered 14 years after the 9/11 attacks. So many families lost loved ones, but the family who lost so many was the FDNY,” added the Councilwoman. “Even still, they exemplified selflessness, bravery and courage in the face of danger. That is what the FDNY stands for.”
