Assemblyman Ron Kim Makes Citizen Arrest

Assemblyman Ron Kim went from being a lawmaker to a law enforcer after making a citizen’s arrest of purse snatcher in downtown Flushing.

The two term assemblyman had just parked his car near his office at around 1 p.m. when he saw a woman with an infant screaming that her purse had just been taken. He spotted the alleged thief running down Main Street after swiping the woman’s purse from the stroller near 37th Avenue.

With the help of a Good Samaritan, the assemblyman chased and tackled the suspect who has been identified as 25 year old Daniel Fish.

Kim, who played football in college, put his skills to good use and tackled Fish to the ground and detained him until police arrived.

Officers from the 109th Precinct arrived within two minutes and took Fish into custody. He was charged with grand larceny, police said.

Kim was clearly upset about something like this happening in broad daylight in his district and said that the issue of homelessness and persons with mental issues must be addressed with a long-term solution.
