Simotas Congratulates High School Graduates

Assemblymember Aravella Simotas delivered the keynote speech to graduating seniors on September 3 at Long Island City High School. The approximately three hundred students, who completed their graduation requirements during the summer, hail from over a dozen schools in Queens and were joined by teachers, administrators, and hundreds of well-wishers. Simotas, LIC H.S. Principal Vivian Selenikas, and Superintendent Juan Mendez thanked the teachers present for their tireless work and congratulated the students for their perseverance.

“Your dedication to your studies is truly admirable,” Simotas told the graduating students. “As a result of your strength, determination, and discipline you have furthered your education and taken a bold step towards a brighter future.”

“This commencement was a wonderful event, as we focused on the achievement of the students and the bright future ahead for them and their families, made possible through the opportunities provided for students struggling to succeed,” said Selenikas.

Simotas, herself a graduate of the Queens public school system, advised the students, “Spend your life doing something you enjoy, always treat others the way you would like to be treated, and never forget where you came from.”
