Just before 2:30 pm the bus was in the northbound lane of Woodhaven Blvd. when a gold Ford Expedition made a sharp turn, cutting off the bus. In an effort to avoid contact, the driver swerved right, losing control and crashing into the car and building, which houses the law and real estate offices of John T. and Anne Landers.
AnnMarie Constantinides, who was about to cross the street at the time, saw the whole scene take place.

“I saw the two cars, the casino bus and the car, driving down toward the mall. The bus was in the bus lane and the guy driving wanted to make a right, and in order to make a right, he had to go right in front of him [the bus] to do it. And they were both going at a pretty good speed. So in order for the bus to avoid the car, he had to swerve, and when he swerved, he just crashed right into the building.”

Constantinides also saw the aftermath of the accident and what happened to those involved in the accident.

“The bus driver, I saw him; he was pressed up against the windshield but he was moving, so hopefully that’s a good sign. And the people inside, you can see here that there’s no emergency exits, so the people inside were panicking and banging on the windows, trying to get out,” she said.

All passengers were removed from the bus with the help of FDNY and NYPD and some were taken to area hospitals.

In a statement released on Twitter, Resorts World Casino New York said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by today’s bus accident. We are cooperating fully with the authorities in the investigation.”
