Worker Retrieves Cash In Steinway Street Robbery

By Liz Goff
A brazen thief snatched a bag of cash from a woman walking on Steinway Street on July 6, but her co-worker chased –down the crook and retrieved the money, police said.

Cops said the 24-year-old woman was walking with her co-worker near 28-56 Steinway Street at about 11 a.m. on July 6 when the brazen thief pulled off the mid-day robbery.

The victims, both workers at a store on Steinway Street, were heading to a nearby bank to deposit the cash receipts from the store when the suspect accosted the woman, snatched the bag and ran away, police said.

The male co-worked took off running after the thief, caught up with him a short distance away and retrieved the cash, police said. The suspect fled empty-handed on foot in an unknown direction.

Police released a surveillance photo (see photo) of the suspect, described as a black male, approximately 6-feet, 2-inches tall and about 170 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt with a light-colored “NIKE” logo on the back, light-colored jeans and white sneakers at the time of the robbery.
