Photo Courtesy of City Parks Foundation On August 12, City Parks Foundation (CPF) held its 14th Annual CityParks Track & Field Citywide Championships, bringing over 2,000 New York City youth to the world-class Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island for a day of healthy competition in a wide range of track & field events. The young people participating have perfected their skills all summer long at 12 sites across the city, courtesy of CityParks Track & Field, presented by EmblemHealth.

On August 12, City Parks Foundation (CPF) held its 14th Annual CityParks Track & Field Citywide Championships, bringing over 2,000 New York City youth to the world-class Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island for a day of healthy competition in a wide range of track & field events. The young people participating have perfected their skills all summer long at 12 sites across the city, courtesy of CityParks Track & Field, presented by EmblemHealth.

Teams of kids, ages 5 to 16, competed in various events throughout the day, including Javelin, Discus, Shot Put, Triple Jump, Long Jump, 400 and 800 Meter Runs, Hurdles, 4x100 Meter Relay, and 100 Meter Dash. The meet also included events for children with special needs, including a 100 Meter Dash that included children in wheelchairs, Javelin, Long Jump, Shot Put and Hurdles. In addition, there was a “Giant” Relay Race for Peewee runners, ages five to seven. Championship medals were awarded at Peewee, Beginner, and Intermediate levels.

CityParks Track & Field, presented by EmblemHealth and supported by the Nike+ Run Club NYC, offers free track & field instruction for boys and girls, ages 5 to 16, with lessons held twice a week from July through August in parks citywide. Through a partnership with EmblemHealth, CPF’s free annual youth Track & Field instruction also provides health tips and special giveaways during instruction time to over 2,000 youth participants and their families. Families have access to sun safety tips, hydration information, and other wellness information to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer sports season. EmblemHealth’s support of City Parks Foundation is part of EmblemHealth’s “Official Sponsor of Small Steps,” an initiative that encourages people to take small steps each day toward living healthier.
