SJU's Rachel Daly & Georgia Kearney-Perry Named Among National's Best

By Kristine Guillaume

Rachel Daly and Georgia Kearney-Perry, students at Saint John’s University (SJU), have received national recognition in the buildup to the 2015 women’s soccer season. Kearney-Perry, a graduate student, was named on the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Best XI squad on August 10. Four days prior, Daly, a senior forward for the Red Storm, was named on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, placing her in contention for the highest award in collegiate soccer.

Both players are the only athletes in the BIG EAST conference to win their respective accolades. Kearney-Perry was selected with just 32 other women’s soccer players nationwide, and Daly is one of only 28 women to be named in contention for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Daly has also made SJU history, becoming the first women from the SJU program to achieve this honor. The winners of the trophy will be announced on January 8, 2016, following the completion of the upcoming women’s soccer season.

Kearney-Perry and Daly, both England natives, have long been prolific and dynamic players for the Red Storm. Kearney-Perry is currently the reigning BIG EAST defensive player of the year, exhibiting key skills as the backbone of the Red Storm defense. Not only did she anchor the back field, but also scored her first two career goals last season, displaying solid offensive capability. Daly, in addition to playing collegiate soccer, is a member of the England Women’s National Soccer Team, and earned the NSCAA Scholar All-America honors last season. She completed last season with eight goals and two assists, earning her a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team.

Daly, Kearney-Perry, and the Red Storm will look to continue their dynamic performances when they kick off the 2015 season on Friday, August 21 in their first match against Stony Brook University’s Seawolves.
