Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and fellow band members had not performed at Forest Hills since 1971, and their long awaited return was greeted with great enthusiasm. The show started promptly at 7 pm with opening act Joan Jett, a recent inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who played several of her famous hits, including “Cherry Bomb” and “I Love Rock ‘n Roll.” At approximately 8 pm The Who took the stage and played until 10 pm sharp (when the stadium’s curfew kicked in). The Who played many of their classic numbers, including “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Baba O’Riley,” “Who Are You,” “My Generation,” “Pinball Wizard,” and many of their other celebrated songs. Several upcoming concerts are scheduled for Forest Hills, including Santana, James Taylor and others.
