The festival featured performances native to Mexico, Italy, Japan, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Ireland, Greece, and other countries. There was music, dancing, face painting, activities for children, and cultural performances from around the world.

Constantinides said, “I enjoyed celebrating Astoria’s diversity and cultural history at the International Cultural Festival. We are a unique community rich with people from a variety of backgrounds and histories from around the world. I witness this diversity every day when I walk around and hear different languages spoken and foods eaten. This festival brings everyone together and encourages connectedness through celebration. I thank Central Astoria LDC, the performers and activity organizers, and all the people who attended today.”

“We are excited to be the recipient of this grant. We thank Councilmember Constantinides for his vision in bringing an International Cultural Fest to Astoria, the personification of an immigrant community with its kaleidoscope of people from every part of the world. Presenting so many cultural traditions on one stage in Astoria Park, celebrating Astoria, is an opportunity to showcase traditions of many different ethnic groups. This event also complements our 30-plus year tradition of bringing the American music tradition to multicultural audiences. We hope to make this an annual event,” said Marie Torniali, Executive Director of Central Astoria.

The event was sponsored by Constantinides using funding from the City Council’s Cultural Immigrant Initiative.
