Retired Astoria Doctor Busted

A retired Astoria doctor was arrested last week for allegedly over prescribing narcotics to his patients.

Dr. David Duffy, 7, was arrested on May 21 and charged with writing more than 30,000 prescriptions for the painkiller oxycodiene for three patients in 2013 – approximately 55 pills per patient per day, authorities said.

Authorities said Duffy, who ran his practice from a location on 30th Avenue in Astoria, retired in 2014.

Prosecutors said Duffy ignored signs that the patients were likely selling the pills.
