Councilman Paul Vallone was joined by Whitestone residents, members of Community Board 7, state Senator Tony Avella, Greater Whitestone Taxpayers Civic Association, Welcome to Whitestone, and We Love Whitestone, for an afternoon rally on May 17 in Whitestone at the water’s edge.

The reason for the gathering was in recognition of the developer Edgestone Group’s decision to return to the original plan for building 52 single-family homes and a community park.

“Last week, our office was proud to announce that the Edgestone Group, owners of the waterfront site, located at 151-45 6th Road, had confirmed their commitment to return to the original plan that was agreed upon by the community and City Council back in 2008,” said Vallone.

Edgestone had recently proposed increasing the number of homes to 107 two-family townhouses.

“In just the last year and a half, we have averted ill-conceived plans for a high school and ensured that upcoming development at the newly purchased Whitestone Jewels site and the old Waterpointe site will remain in character with the surrounding neighborhood. However, winning these battles does not mean that we will let our guard down. Just as we did this Sunday, our office will always stand at the gates of Whitestone to protect the quality of life, the small business community and unique residential character that makes Whitestone one of the best neighborhoods in the entire city,” Vallone concluded.
