Riding To Fight Cancer

“Please help in any way you can. We are only 30 percent to goal and need your support today. Thank you!”

That is the message of Jay Binkowitz, an optician and partner with Dr. Mark Stadlen, of American Eyecare Center, 38- 03 Broadway in Astoria who bicycles every year in the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC), a 192-mile bike-a-thon to raise money for cancer research.

“We are proud and privileged to share with you the accomplishments of our efforts over the last few years. Joining over 5,500 riders and 3,000 volunteers, my wife Bettina and I have participated in the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC.org) as members of Team Kermit. We commit our time each summer to do our part in the fight against cancer. Last year the PMC raised $41 million. With your support, Team Kermit raised $360,000 in 2014 with 100 percent of your donations going directly to research in the fight against pediatric brain tumors.”

Team Kermit rides the PMC carrying the spirit and desire for life that Jared Branfman exemplified, said Binkowitz. “The team was formed in 2005 by my cousins Steven, Ellen, Adam and Jared while he was undergoing treatment. Jared passed away after a two and a half-year battle with the disease. He was just 23 years old and Kermit was his favorite childhood character. Jared would have benefited from the advancements in cancer treatment that your support has made happen.

“We remain committed and you can count on us to do our part. We will train and rise at 4 am to ride and volunteer, rain or shine! We will succeed for the children and for you. Please reach into your hearts and be generous. Your gift is the magic that will bring more smiles to the children and the power to win this fight.”

Cancer affects us all. Make your donation to honor a friend, in memory of a loved one or just to be thankful. You can make your donation of any amount here:
