The celebration honored Greek-Americans who have dedicated themselves to serving their communities and was also attended by Lieutenant Colonel of Greece Maria Bouliakoudi.

Constantinides said, “I am proud to join my fellow councilmembers in celebrating Greek Independence today at City Hall. As the first Greek-American in the City Council, it holds special meaning to host this celebration of culture and history. We honor several Greek-Americans who have helped promote Hellenic and Democratic values and have been great examples of civic engagement throughout the community. We recognize their contributions, including leadership and commitment to Hellenism. I thank my colleagues Speaker Mark-Viverito and Councilmember Vallone for standing with the Greek-American community and honoring their contribution to our city.”

The Councilmembers honored:
Arthur Cheliotes – President of CWA Local 1180
Nancy Papaioannou – Executive Board Member, Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce
Jimmy and Euripides Pelekanos – Co-Founders, Bare Burger
Christina Tettonis – Principal, Hellenic Classical Charter School
Kostas Angeloudis – Co-Founder, CosmosFM
Petros Galatoulas – President, Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York
“I’d like to wish a happy Greek Independence Day to all New Yorkers and to people of Greek descent across the world,” said Mark-Viverito. “As the most diverse legislative body in America, this City Council is proud to celebrate the backgrounds and heritages which make New York City great and I thank Councilmember Costa Constantinides for hosting tonight’s event.”

“I am proud to once again stand with Councilmember Costa Constantinides and Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito as we celebrate the anniversary of Greece’s Independence at City Hall,” said Vallone. “The Greek-American community continues to be one of the most culturally proud and vibrant in our city, especially in my district with the parishes of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Shrine Church and the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Whitestone. At this year’s event I am glad to have the opportunity to honor and recognize Kosta Angeloudis, a man who is a living testament to the countless successes and contributions that Greek-Americans have made to our great city. I look forward to continuing to work with the Greek-American Community on issues important to them, as well as sharing with them in celebration and appreciation of their rich history and culture.”
