Constantinides also honored the winners of an essay contest that he hosted with local elementary schools highlighting the services provided to the community.

Constantinides said, “Libraries provide irreplaceable services helping everyone regardless of age, origin, or economic status. That’s all with dedicated staff and valuable programming throughout the city. Neighborhood events like these show how much we support our city’s libraries. They also show that the libraries deserve more and better funding. I was proud to celebrate our libraries’ services with the students and parents who use them.”

“I developed my love of reading at the local branch of the Queens Public Library, with lots of encouragement from my parents and teachers,” said Simotas. “Strong reading skills are the basis of an effective education, and the services that libraries provide help children develop those skills and build confidence.”

Quinn-Carey said “Councilmember Constantinides is an unwavering supporter of libraries in his district and citywide. By celebrating Library Day, he called attention to all the great education and information available to the community using a free library card. Our thanks to the Councilmember and to Assemblymember Aravella Simotas for promoting reading. You are always welcome at Queens Library!”
