Doo Wop Project Tribute To 1950s Vocal Artists At QCC

Recreating the harmonies and the unforgettable vocal group hits on AM radio, The Doo Wop Project is coming to the Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC) to dazzle audiences on April 19.  The cast features the blockbuster talents of *Charl Brown, Dominic Scaglione, Dominic Nolfi, John Dias, Dwayne Cooper,  all current or former Broadway stars of the smash hits, Jersey Boys and Motown the Musical.  Together they put a modern spin on the unforgettable music and smooth sounds of groups like The Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos, all the while  revealing  how the classic “doo-wop”  sound influenced generations of songwriters and vocalists such as Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, The Four Seasons, even Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse.  “There is something about this music that makes people of every generation want to sing out loud and dance,” said Susan Agin, Executive Director of QPAC.  “This group of sensational singers and dancers is irresistible and a thrill to see and hear. Audiences will fall in love all over again!”

Distinguished artists who have performed throughout the decades at QPAC include jazz legend Thelonius Monk; renowned dance choreographer Merce Cunningham; 1960s folksinger Judy Collins; and more recently, Dionne Warwick, Joan Rivers, Joel Grey, Robert Klein, Ben Vereen, Wayne Newton,  Chita Rivera, Mandy Patinkin, Norm Lewis, Rob Schneider, Tommy Tune and Michael Bolton.
