Dr. David Samadi Dr. David Samadi The Peter Latos Prostate Cancer Foundation presents One Simple Blood Test, a Free PSA Screening on May 9, at Cavo Lounge, 42-18 31st Ave., Astoria, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Dr. David Samadi and his staff will do PSA screenings, a test that measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood, courtesy of The Peter Latos Prostate Cancer Foundation, which will pay for the first 200 men who come and sign up for the test. The PSA test is not automatically included in a routine blood test and must be requested by the patient.

Every 2.1 minutes, another man is diagnosed with prostate cancer. More men today between the ages of 38 and 65 are being diagnosed. Prostate cancer affects every one in six men. Additionally, men are 35 percent more at risk to develop prostate cancer than women are to develop breast cancer.

Men with prostate cancer in the very early stages typically have no symptoms. But when found in the early stages and contained within the prostate only, it yields a cure rate of almost 100 percent. That is why testing is crucial. New treatments are saving lives.

Peter Latos Peter Latos Peter Latos, born 1965, died in 2013, at the age of 48. Sadly, proper testing could have saved his life. It was his wish to have a foundation created that would save men’s lives by helping them detect prostate cancer early.
