Elderly Woman Struck And Killed By Car In Astoria

An 80-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car while she was crossing an East Elmhurst street on March 17 just before 3 p.m., according to the NYPD.

The woman was walking north against the light across Astoria Boulevard at 80th Street about 2:50 p.m. when a vehicle going east driven by a 28-year-old woman hit her, police said.

The elderly woman was transported to Elmhurst General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver told investigators she was trailing a large black SUV which blocked her view as it slowed to avoid hitting the 80-year-old.

The driver remained at the scene and was not initially charged, police said.
