DEE’S…Since 1993

Dee’s is celebrating its 22nd year in Forest Hills welcoming the community it serves with a friendly smile, a memorable meal, and if you’re lucky, a hug from Dee Arabian, the charming, gregarious owner of Dee’s. You’ll feel the warmth from the pizza oven as soon as you walk in and will be intoxicated by tantalizing aromas emanating from the brick oven that is fueled by burning wood at an amazing 825 degrees. Nothing feels or tastes better at this time of year, and with over 30 varieties of pizza, you can have a different one every day of the month. It only starts there, as Dee’s offers a culinary journey that will keep you coming back for 22 more years!

When asked to reflect on the past 22 years, Dee cited three things: 1. Watching the neighborhood kids grow up in his restaurant. Some youngsters who used to eat from the Kids’ menu are now lawyers and stock brokers. 2. Enticing loyal customers to expand their culinary horizons and try something new, while 3. Staying humble and keeping dishes that loyal customers rely on. Indeed, the success of Dee’s is no accident. A graduate of the prestigious French Culinary Institute, Dee offers new twists on classic Italian and New American dishes, without abandoning his faithful clientele who still enjoy their old favorites. The sleek, modern dining room was buzzing, even on a frigid weeknight and the private dining rooms are perfectly suited for your next private affair so book now.

The handsome bar is expertly manned and your favorite cocktails are shaken and elegantly served, such as the ‘dark and stormy’ with dark rum and ginger beer, the classic ‘Manhattan’ and tropical margaritas and mojitos. The craft beer and wine selections are exemplary, all at reasonable prices. We had some wine while we nibbled on some of the wood-burning pizza that you simply can’t resist. Topped with the perfect amount of fresh mozzarella, tomato, and arugula, atop light, crispy, bubble-filled crust, this pizza is just perfection. Next we sampled a new item from the appetizer menu; fish tacos. Tender, moist tilapia is grilled Cajun style and placed in a warm tortilla with red cabbage slaw and tomatillo sauce. With two to an order, these tacos are perfect for sharing as a first course or maybe even a light supper for one. Chicken wings might be ubiquitous, but not like Dee’s, made with a special teriyaki glaze, sprinkled with sesame seeds. Manila clams sautéed with spicy chorizo sausage, red and green peppers and a touch of cognac are delicious and great for sharing ($14). You’ll want to soak up the aromatic broth with some of their brick oven focaccia bread. Pair up this warm focaccia bread with Dee’s homemade hummus, eggplant caponata, fava beans, or fabulous spinach and artichoke dip. Coconut shrimp with chipotle dipping sauce, peppercorn crusted tuna sushi, and grilled artichokes Roman style are just a few more starters that have earned Dee’s its culinary reputation.

When it comes to pasta, Dee’s has all your favorites and you’ll find some new favorites too. Dee’s lasagna is the most popular for its layers of pasta, three cheeses, and rich Bolognese meat sauce. It’s so good, customers order trays of it to take home and it tastes even better leftover. A new item is the sesame crusted tuna over linguine with shitake mushrooms and bok choy which combines different flavors in a unique and delicious way. I was happy to see another addition to the menu with cavatelli pasta, broccoli rabe and crumbled, hot sausage, the perfect winter meal ($19). Al dente rigatoni with grilled eggplant and marinara sauce is finished with a healthy dollop of fluffy ricotta cheese. Kids and adults alike will devour Mama’s spaghetti and mini meatballs made from the holy trinity of beef, veal, and pork. Pair up a pasta dish with one of Dee’s creative salads and you’re in for a great meal.

Dee’s grill and signature items include their famous artisan burgers, made from Angus beef, turkey, salmon, or mushrooms, topped as you like with fine cheddar or Applewood bacon. Dee’s salmon is perfectly grilled with a crisp crust, moist and juicy inside, nestled on a mound of mashed potatoes, topped with curry dusted shoestring onion rings. Argentinian style skirt steak is grilled to order and served with fragrant chimmichurri sauce, vegetables, and fries. Fear not, classic chicken Parmigiana and chicken Milanese are always on the menu, along with Dee’s monthly specials which your lovely server will tell you about.

Don’t skip dessert, even if you have to share it because the sea salt caramel gelato cake is wonderful, as is the Key Lime pie, almond tiramisu and lighter-than-air profiteroles. Dee’s also offers a “Leisurely Lunch” menu with smaller portions of their best dishes. Make your reservations now for your spring time family events. Regular customers receive loyalty points for dining and there’s easy street parking. Dee’s is open six days a week for lunch and dinner (closed Mondays). See what 22 years of experience tastes like at Dee’s in Forest Hills. Celebrate life at Dee’s…salute!
