Cops Identify Suspect In Fatal Stabbing

Police last week released a photo (see photo) of a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old Jackson Heights man on December 19.

Cops said Steven Shimabuira was returning home to his basement apartment on 90th Street in Jackson Heights at about 9:15 p.m. on December 19 when Avila approached and jammed a knife in his chest.

Shimabuira managed to make it into the apartment he shared with his girlfriend, who called 911 for help, police said. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he died a short while later.

Avila is described as a male Hispanic, 5-feet,4-inches tall, 170 pounds, with short, black hair. He was wearing a camouflage jacket with an American flag on the back at the time of the attack.

The HOTLINE is offering a $2,k000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
